Preposition "TO" in Marathi

In previous post we saw that, in Marathi special forms of pronouns are appended with preposition.

The preposition “To” in English is ला ( lA ) in Marathi. But preposition “To” is handled bit differently in Marathi.

Special forms are created incorporating ला ( lA ). So no need to add ला ( lA ) again.

e.g. “to him” in English is त्याला ( tyAlA ) in Marathi. 

Notice this special form already has ला ( lA ) In it. So no need to add ला ( lA ) again.

So full sentence will be

Give it to him -> हे त्याला दे ( he tyAlA de )

 Below table shows these special form for all pronouns

Pronoun in English	Pronoun with preposition “to”	Pronoun in Marathi	सामान्य रूप (sAmAnya rUp) in Marathi considering ला ( lA ).	Transliteration
I	To me	मी	मला	malA
we	To us	आम्ही	आम्हाला	AmhAlA
we ( listenr including)	To us	आपण	आपल्याला	ApalyAlA
You (singular)	To you	तू	तुला	tulA
You (plural)	To you	तुम्ही	तुम्हाला	tumhAlA
He / That (male)	To him	तो	त्याला	tyAlA
She /That (female)	To her	ती	तीला	tIlA
It /That (neuter)	To iy	ते	त्याला	tyAlA
They (Plural of He) /Those (m.)	To them	ते	त्यांना	tyAMnA
They (Plural of She) /Those(f.)	To them	त्या	त्यांना	tyAMnA
They (Plural of it) /Those (n.)	To them	ती	त्यांना	tyAMnA
This(Male)	To this	हा	ह्याला	hyAlA
This(Female)	To this	ही	हीला	hIlA
This(neuter)	To this	हे	ह्याला	hyAlA
These (male)	To these	हे	ह्यांना	hyAMnA
These (female)	To these	ह्या	ह्यांना	hyAMnA
These (neuter)	To these	ही	ह्यांना	hyAMnA

Example :-

Bring me water -> मला पाणी आण ( malA pANI AN )

Bring water to these --> ह्यांना पाणी आण (hyAMnA pANI AN )

Bring water to Peter --> पीटरला पाणी आण (pITaralA  pANI AN )

The pronoun for "self" is स्वतः (svatH) and its सामान्य रूप (sAmAnya rUp) is same i.e. स्वतः (svatH). So with preposition "To" form is स्वतःला(svatHlA)
