1) Using тАЬLetтАЭ for suggestion
Suppose we want to call our friends for some action , we will say
тАЬLet us goтАЭ, тАЬLet us start lunchтАЭ etc.
In Marathi such form is created by suffixing тАЬрдКрдпрд╛тАЭ (UyA) to
verb.
Also generally sentence is started with рдЪрд▓рд╛ (chalA) which is kind of
exclaimation or call for action.
Examples :-
LetтАЩs play :- рдЪрд▓рд╛, рдЖрдкрдг рдЦреЗрд│реВрдпрд╛ (chalA, ApaN kheLUyA)
LetтАЩs go :- рдЪрд▓рд╛, рдЖрдкрдг рдЬрд╛рдКрдпрд╛ (chalA, ApaN jAUyA)
тАЬрдЖрдкрдгтАЭ
can be omitted.
LetтАЩs speak :- рдЪрд▓рд╛, рдмреЛрд▓реВрдпрд╛
Negative sentence :-
Negative sentence can
be formed by adding тАЬрдирдХреЛтАЭ (nako) before verb.
Generally рдЪрд▓рд╛ (chalA) will not be used as we are
not calling for any action.
Examplles :-
LetтАЩs not play :- рдЖрдкрдг рдирдХреЛ рдЦреЗрд│реВрдпрд╛ (ApaN nako
kheLUyA)
LetтАЩs not go :- рдЖрдкрдг рдирдХреЛ рдЬрд╛рдКрдпрд╛ (ApaN nako jAUyA)
LetтАЩs not speak :- рдирдХреЛ рдмреЛрд▓реВрдпрд╛ (nako bolUyA )
Questions
In English question is created using phrase "Shall we"
In Marathi question can be asked in two ways.
1st way) Verb + тАЬрдКрдпрд╛тАЭ (UyA) рдХрд╛ (kA)
2nd way) Second form is created by suffixing form of тАЬрдЖрдпрдЪрд╛тАЭ (AyachA) to verb. Depending on the gender and multiplicity of noun required form is suffixed. Forms are рдЖрдпрдЪрд╛-рдЖрдпрдЪреА-рдЖрдпрдЪреЗ-рдЖрдпрдЪреЗ-рдЖрдпрдЪреНрдпрд╛-рдЖрдпрдЪреА ( AyachA-AyachI-Ayache-Ayache-AyachyA-AyachI ).
Examples :-
Shall we play cricket ?
1) рдХреНрд░рд┐рдХреЗрдЯ рдЦреЗрд│реВрдпрд╛ рдХрд╛ ? ( krikeT kheLUyA kA?)
2) рдХреНрд░рд┐рдХреЗрдЯ рдЦреЗрд│рд╛рдпрдЪреЗ рдХрд╛ ? ( krikeT kheLAyAche kA ? )

e.g. Verb is "рдЦрд╛". For Masculine-Singular noun "рдЖрдВрдмрд╛" we will say "рдЖрдВрдмрд╛ рдЦрд╛рдпрдЪрд╛"
For Feminine-Singular noun "рдЪрд┐рдВрдЪ " we will say "рдЪрд┐рдВрдЪ рдЦрд╛рдпрдЪреА"

2) рдЪрд┐рдВрдЪ рдЦрд╛рдпрдЪреА рдХрд╛ ? ( chiMch khAyachI kA ?)
2) Using тАЬLetтАЭ for allowing activity
There is another usage
of тАЬLetтАЭ
e.g. тАЬLet him playтАЭ,
тАЬLet him study quietlyтАЭ
By such sentence you
are asking someone to allow the activity happen freely.
In Marathi such
sentence is formed by appending тАЬрдК рджреЗтАЭ( U de) to verb.
This is an imperative/command
statement so as you can guess for you-plural suffix will be тАЬрдК рджреНрдпрд╛тАЭ (U dyA)
Examples will make it
clear
Examples :-
Let him play :- рддреНрдпрд╛рд▓рд╛ рдЦреЗрд│реВ рджреЗ (tyAlA kheLU de )
Let me eat :- рдорд▓рд╛ рдЦрд╛рдК рджреЗ (malA khAU de )
Let her speak :- рддреАрд▓рд╛ рдмреЛрд▓реВ рджреЗ (tIlA bolU de
)
You all, Let him play
:- рддреНрдпрд╛рд▓рд╛ рдЦреЗрд│реВ рджреНрдпрд╛ (tyAlA kheLU dyA )
You all , Let me eat
:- рдорд▓рд╛ рдЦрд╛рдК рджреНрдпрд╛ (malA khAU dyA )
You all, Let her speak
:- рддреАрд▓рд╛ рдмреЛрд▓реВ рджреНрдпрд╛ (tIlA bolU dyA
)
Negative sentence :-
We have already seen
how to create negative imperative sentences. So negative imperative for verb тАЬрджреЗтАЭ (de) is тАЬрджреЗрдК рдирдХреЛрд╕тАЭ(deU nakos ) for singular you
and тАЬрджреЗрдК рдирдХрд╛тАЭ(deU nakA) for plural you.
Take below examples :-
DonтАЩt let him play :- рддреНрдпрд╛рд▓рд╛ рдЦреЗрд│реВ рджреЗрдК рдирдХреЛрд╕ (tyAlA kheLU deU
nakos)
DonтАЩt let me eat :- рдорд▓рд╛ рдЦрд╛рдК рджреЗрдК рдирдХреЛрд╕ (malA khAU deU nakos)
You all, donтАЩt let her
speak :- рддреАрд▓рд╛ рдмреЛрд▓реВ рджреЗрдК рдирдХрд╛ (tIlA bolU deU nakA)
You all, donтАЩt let me
eat :- рдорд▓рд╛ рдЦрд╛рдК рджреЗрдК рдирдХрд╛ (malA khAU deU nakA)

3. chal tu khel
4. chalo/chaliye tum/aap khelo/kheliye

Milind, "Chalo Hum Khele" is the type sentence which I have explained in the blog.
DeleteIn most of the above sentences, you have just started the sentence with "Chalo"...but in crux it is not a sentence of "Let us" or "shall we" type.
If you omit "chalo" part, most of the sentences you can translate yourself by using other rules
Hi, there seems to be a transliteration inconsistency/mistake in the sentence
ReplyDeleteShall we play cricket ?
1) рдХреНрд░рд┐рдХреЗрдЯ рдЦреЗрд│реВрдпрд╛ рдХрд╛ ? ( chalA krikeT kheLUyA )
and in the next 2 examples.
The same applies for
You all, Let him play :- рддреНрдпрд╛рд▓рд╛ рдЦреЗрд│реВ рджреНрдпрд╛ (tyAlA kheLU de )
and the following 2 sentences.
Thanks for pointing out. rectified. Plz check.
