1) Using “Let” for suggestion
Suppose we want to call our friends for some action , we will say
“Let us go”, “Let us start lunch” etc.
In Marathi such form is created by suffixing “เคเคฏा” (UyA) to
verb.
Also generally sentence is started with เคเคฒा (chalA) which is kind of
exclaimation or call for action.
Examples :-
Let’s play :- เคเคฒा, เคเคชเคฃ เคेเคณूเคฏा (chalA, ApaN kheLUyA)
Let’s go :- เคเคฒा, เคเคชเคฃ เคाเคเคฏा (chalA, ApaN jAUyA)
“เคเคชเคฃ”
can be omitted.
Let’s speak :- เคเคฒा, เคฌोเคฒूเคฏा
Negative sentence :-
Negative sentence can
be formed by adding “เคจเคो” (nako) before verb.
Generally เคเคฒा (chalA) will not be used as we are
not calling for any action.
Examplles :-
Let’s not play :- เคเคชเคฃ เคจเคो เคेเคณूเคฏा (ApaN nako
kheLUyA)
Let’s not go :- เคเคชเคฃ เคจเคो เคाเคเคฏा (ApaN nako jAUyA)
Let’s not speak :- เคจเคो เคฌोเคฒूเคฏा (nako bolUyA )
Questions
In English question is created using phrase "Shall we"
In Marathi question can be asked in two ways.
1st way) Verb + “เคเคฏा” (UyA) เคा (kA)
2nd way) Second form is created by suffixing form of “เคเคฏเคा” (AyachA) to verb. Depending on the gender and multiplicity of noun required form is suffixed. Forms are เคเคฏเคा-เคเคฏเคी-เคเคฏเคे-เคเคฏเคे-เคเคฏเค्เคฏा-เคเคฏเคी ( AyachA-AyachI-Ayache-Ayache-AyachyA-AyachI ).
Examples :-
Shall we play cricket ?
1) เค्เคฐिเคेเค เคेเคณूเคฏा เคा ? ( krikeT kheLUyA kA?)
2) เค्เคฐिเคेเค เคेเคณाเคฏเคे เคा ? ( krikeT kheLAyAche kA ? )

e.g. Verb is "เคा". For Masculine-Singular noun "เคंเคฌा" we will say "เคंเคฌा เคाเคฏเคा"
For Feminine-Singular noun "เคिंเค " we will say "เคिंเค เคाเคฏเคी"
For Feminine-Singular noun "เคिंเค " we will say "เคिंเค เคाเคฏเคी"
Examples :-

2) เค्เคฐिเคेเค เคेเคณाเคฏเคे เคा ? ( krikeT kheLAyAche kA ? )

2) เคिंเค เคाเคฏเคी เคा ? ( chiMch khAyachI kA ?)
2) Using “Let” for allowing activity
There is another usage
of “Let”
e.g. “Let him play”,
“Let him study quietly”
By such sentence you
are asking someone to allow the activity happen freely.
In Marathi such
sentence is formed by appending “เค เคฆे”( U de) to verb.
This is an imperative/command
statement so as you can guess for you-plural suffix will be “เค เคฆ्เคฏा” (U dyA)
Examples will make it
clear
Examples :-
Let him play :- เคค्เคฏाเคฒा เคेเคณू เคฆे (tyAlA kheLU de )
Let me eat :- เคฎเคฒा เคाเค เคฆे (malA khAU de )
Let her speak :- เคคीเคฒा เคฌोเคฒू เคฆे (tIlA bolU de
)
You all, Let him play
:- เคค्เคฏाเคฒा เคेเคณू เคฆ्เคฏा (tyAlA kheLU dyA )
You all , Let me eat
:- เคฎเคฒा เคाเค เคฆ्เคฏा (malA khAU dyA )
You all, Let her speak
:- เคคीเคฒा เคฌोเคฒू เคฆ्เคฏा (tIlA bolU dyA
)
Negative sentence :-
We have already seen
how to create negative imperative sentences. So negative imperative for verb “เคฆे” (de) is “เคฆेเค เคจเคोเคธ”(deU nakos ) for singular you
and “เคฆेเค เคจเคा”(deU nakA) for plural you.
Take below examples :-
Don’t let him play :- เคค्เคฏाเคฒा เคेเคณू เคฆेเค เคจเคोเคธ (tyAlA kheLU deU
nakos)
Don’t let me eat :- เคฎเคฒा เคाเค เคฆेเค เคจเคोเคธ (malA khAU deU nakos)
You all, don’t let her
speak :- เคคीเคฒा เคฌोเคฒू เคฆेเค เคจเคा (tIlA bolU deU nakA)
You all, don’t let me
eat :- เคฎเคฒा เคाเค เคฆेเค เคจเคा (malA khAU deU nakA)

Milind, "Chalo Hum Khele" is the type sentence which I have explained in the blog.
DeleteIn most of the above sentences, you have just started the sentence with "Chalo"...but in crux it is not a sentence of "Let us" or "shall we" type.
If you omit "chalo" part, most of the sentences you can translate yourself by using other rules
Hi, there seems to be a transliteration inconsistency/mistake in the sentence
ReplyDeleteShall we play cricket ?
1) เค्เคฐिเคेเค เคेเคณूเคฏा เคा ? ( chalA krikeT kheLUyA )
and in the next 2 examples.
The same applies for
You all, Let him play :- เคค्เคฏाเคฒा เคेเคณू เคฆ्เคฏा (tyAlA kheLU de )
and the following 2 sentences.
Thanks for pointing out. rectified. Plz check.
