Friends, let us move a step ahead towards in learning sentence formation in Marathi, today. We will talk about verbs in Marathi.

In English some verbs are  :- to go; to come; to speak; to sit; to eat etc.
In Marathi some verbs
are येणे(yeNe), जाणे(jANe), बोलणे (bolaNe), बसणे(basaNe), खाणे(khaaNe) etc.

In most of the cases, while using the verb in English sentence, we strip "to" out of it. e.g. "To  come" is used in sentence as "I come" etc.
Same way in Marathi ending णे (Ne) is stripped in sentence.

Like in English, Just saying the verb is asking someone to do that action.
When you say "Come !" you are asking someone to come. Same way in Marathi saying "ये(ye)" is asking someone to come.

So by knowing the verbs you can easily request someone.

  1. Mr.Lele, you are explaining the language very well. I have been in Mumbai and Pune for few years but since Hindi and English was sufficient did not pay much attention but could understand simple Marathi to some extant. Means can go to bazar and get things and like that. Now I just want to brush up my Marathi and found your way of teaching to be quite good. In this lesson I got a doubt. Whether the last consonent is like in Sanskrit or Hindi. कर,उठ, झोप etc are kara, uDha, Jhopa etc or like in Hindi? In full sentence it may not matter. Say like 'kai karto tumi ' or 'zhopla kai'. Excuse me if these sentences are wrong. Sentences like these I got by listening. There could be grammatical mistakes.
    Thanks,

    1. Hi V.K.Guptan, Thanks a lot for appreciation and all the best for Marathi learning. I appreciate your spirit of learning. It is never too late !!

Last consonant of verb ( or rather any word ) is pronounced completely. So in कर,उठ,झोप last letter र,ठ,प are spoken completely. If it is to be spoken half, then in Devanagari it is written as कर्‌, ऊठ्‌, झोप्‌

I think this is what you wanted to know.

  5. Hello Mr. Kaushik. Thank you for the detailed lessons that you have put up. I had one question. Do you have extensive practice exercises anywhere? Exercises with correct answers and explanation for those answers? From my experience of learning English and Hindi when I was a kid, practice exercises really help to remember and use whatever has been learnt. Maybe you have it somewhere already, I just can't find it. If you can point me to the resource, it will be really helpful.
Thank you once again for this extremely helpful series.
